In the academic year of 2012-2013, students of School of Information Technology (SIT) achieved great results in off-campus science and technology competitions. As recorded, till July 10th, 78 students won 34 prizes in various competitions, including 5 national and 29 provincial competitions, covering fields like computer software design, ACM/ICPC program, electronic product design, etc. Participants are students of 2009, 2010 and 2011 of SIT. Surprisingly yet encouragingly, junior students have taken the place as the main force in all kinds of off-campus competitions, setting up great basis for the talent building and sustainable development.
Such great results cannot be achieved without the school’s teaching philosophy and exploration in the talent development. Competition-oriented and overall professional exploration is included in the general teaching plan, which integrates in- and off- campus successfully, making it an essential part of the talent development model.
SIT has also allocated budget specifically to encourage students from each department to participate in science and technology competitions, organized by governmental or professional institutions. For instance, students of Computer Science and Technology Department participate in Pan-Pearl River Delta Student Computer Works Competition, Guangdong Challenging Cup Competition etc.; students of Software Engineering Department participate in the Preliminaries of International University Student Program Design Contest, Guangdong University Student Program Design Contest etc.; students of Electronics and Electrics Department participate in National 3D Digital Creation Design Contest and so on.
The achievements also owe to the faculty’s instructions as well as their orderly organization. SIT has arranged excellent teachers to tutor students in competitions. Moreover, Academic Research Department of SIT Youth League Committee has always regarded the popularization of the academic elements as the core value of their work and has actively encouraged students to take part in various competitions, so as to fulfill their responsibility of serving and guiding the college students.
